Doc originally joined LL in early 2012 but was soon thereafter smothered by the varied joys of Real Life and faded off the board. She's recently come back to try again.

In the real world, Doc is an accident-prone thirty-something who has made a few poor career choices. She briefly studied criminal justice (which lent itself to an awareness that juvenile law is boring and that studying crime scenes in class was heaps of fun), dabbled in emergency medicine (and from it developed an acute appreciation for the depths of human stupidity), spent several years as a hotel maid (thereby gaining a burning hatred of tourists and bad tippers), and very briefly worked in retail (which speaks utterly for itself). She's now working for an international parcel shipping company, where she's learned that Amazon truly has taken over the world.

She also tends to poke fun at herself.

Characters

Arthur Cartwright - Captain in the Royal Marines. He's not far off from turning twenty-five and is recently returned from several years on sea duty. His last ship, a frigate called Terpsichore, was a successful coastal raider in the Mediterranean and took several French ships as prizes.
Mallory MacAlpine - Private secretary to James Vickery, a post he's held for the past five years. He's a thirty-four year old Scotsman who likes things to be neat and orderly - but when they're not, he is good at making them so.

Areas of Interest

On the historical front, her range of interests is fairly broad. She primarily focussed on the American Revolutionary period until she was converted to the Napoleonic era by Sharpie a few years ago. These days, she concentrates chiefly on the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, and British Army of the Napoleonic period. But. Since she's an odd sort of person, she quite likes reading military order-books, as well as newspapers and published letters and journals of private citizens from this period. Oh and reading about shipwrecks because those are fun.

She also has varying depths of knowledge about:

  • The British Army of the Seven Years' War.
  • The British Army of the American Revolution.
  • The Continental Army of the American Revolution.
  • British civil unrest in the Napoleonic period.
  • The British Army in India.
  • The British East India Company (with a slight focus on the opium trade).
  • British south-coast smuggling.
  • The penal colony at Botany Bay.
  • The Vendée uprising.
  • The Haitian Revolution.

Other less relevant eras of history that she knows a very little about are:

  • The American West.
  • Pre-Great War England.
  • The Great War itself (with a focus on the Somme).
  • The British Army in World War Two.
  • The US Army and Navy in World War Two.
  • Modern US military (by unfortunate experience).

Doc also likes to write. While she seldom writes RP-based fiction, when she does, it invariably goes in the same fashion as the rest of her stories. Almost no one gets a happy ending. It's just more fun that way. Ah yes. One last thing. She will research for biscuits.
