Background
Celia Reeves was born on a warm day in June, the first child of Baron Halloway. Her childhood could only be described as normal: uneventful, dull at times, but for the most part pleasant and free from major disasters and tragedy. She was a clever child, though also very quiet and shy. The young Celia had little interest in meeting new people, sometimes to the point of being slightly fearful. Her shyness was a minor concern for her parents, but she did eventually come to outgrow it.
As Celia grew, she became much more comfortable interacting with others and began to break out her shell. She came to enjoy the company of others, and with that she also came to learn what lonliness meant. She remained an only child because - try as they might - her parents could not conceive another. However, Celia would soon become distracted by her education and have little time left to sit around and wish for a younger sibling. She was taught privately and excelled in history and French. Her music lessons were nothing short of a disaster.
Her history lessons in particular had a profound effect on her. Never before had Celia actually thought about the world beyond her own home and her own experiences. This stirred up a great sense of curiosity: Celia wanted to know everything and (secretly) wanted to try everything. Her instructors found her thirst for knowledge endearing, but her parents found it mildly alarming.
By the time Celia reached sixteen, her curiosity about the world had reached a point where she could no longer ignore it. She went about her goal of secretly trying everything, starting with the vices that some of her family's servants had. Celia tried drinking first, and it did not take her long to find out that it was, in fact, a vile habit that she had no intention of ever doing again. Tobacco came next, and Clia quite liked that one. Gambling was another one she enjoyed, and within a year she had begun luring one of the of more attractive female servants to bed.
Celia was always very careful with how she gave in to her temptations, only indulging at certain times, in certain places, and never in any regular pattern. So far she has managed to keep up her reputation, and at the age of seventeen she made her debut in London. Celia went mostly unnoticed, only catching the attention of one suitor who seems less and less interested as the days go by. Her lack of success only plays into her greatest fear: that she's unintentionally projecting the fact that she has something to hide.
