Background
Kitty was born to very happily-married parents. Mark Clement had inherited the title of Viscount Sandton from his father when he passed away, and he met Doris in Bath where she was debuting. Mark and Doris were very much in love, and had two children after Kitty, making her the eldest with two younger brothers. However, whilst giving birth to the third and youngest son Robert, Doris sadly passed away. Kitty still remembers her mother with great fondness and recalls her death, though she was very young. It cast a definite shadow on much of her childhood and sent her father into a spell of grief.
During this time Kitty was left to much of her own devices, and she and her brothers had to make their own entertainment. She was privately educated, however, with a good governess and her quick learning and intelligence were extremely evident from a young age. The rate at which she grasped things was impressive, and it seemed she had a thirst for knowledge and an enjoyment for her studies. Her favourite pastime was reading, and she devoured books with relish. She plays the harp well and doing so also brings her great joy, and her singing voice is tolerable.
There came a point at which her father wanted to re-marry, and though Kitty can find nothing really to object to, she does not get on entirely with her new step-mother. The angelic picture she has in her mind of her real mother meant that whoever her father married was just not going to be good enough in comparison, and this has produced a few unwanted sparks between the two ladies.
Having grown up at Sandton Hall in Sussex, Kitty had not visited London until she debuted last year. She found the people fascinating and the place constantly challenged or diverted her, which was what she needed and enjoyed. The family return every season and Kitty finds herself looking forward to the time spent there.
