Background

Born into a family of wealth and fame, the Cross family has never needed to worry themselves with financial or social troubles. The family is from a long line of Earls and Dukes throughout the generations. Throughout these times, the Cross family was always at the top of the social ladder, known for their lavish parties and impeccable reputation as kind, but high class and proper English nobility.

Charles Cross was no exception to the proper English family that he was born into. By the age of 21 he was married off to Florence Temple, a young girl of just 17 whose parents had more or less taken the best offer on a marriage for her. She came from a wealthy family as well; her father was an Admiral, famed for his heroic deeds and the family was in a very high and well known social standing. The pair of young lovers were fortunate enough to enjoy each other’s company and the relationship quickly grew into a very loving one. They were one of the most handsome couples to be seen and their wedding was the social event of the year.

Just over a year later, Florence had her first child, a strong and healthy boy named Edward. He was a bit of a fussy child, but never gave his parents much trouble. A little over three years later, Florence and Charles had another child, this time a girl with large ice blue eyes and a bald head. Samantha and Edward grew very close despite their young age and Edward protected his younger sister from all the dangers of their cushy world. They were so close that when Florence found herself in circumstance once again, both children were uneager to see another child. They were happy by themselves and thought another child would ruin their fun.

However, Emma Claire was born, with a dark complexion and a quite demeanor, unlike her sister who was loud and witty. Emma hardly ever cried or begged for attention like the way Samantha did. The three children grew very close, Emma and Samantha more so than Edward and Emma, but they got along surprisingly well for not even wanting Emma in the first place. The liking of Emma made Samantha happy to hear when her mother was pregnant again. This time both Edward and Samantha were older, they did not put up a fuss this time. Edward still remained closest to Samantha even after Grace was born as he was thirteen years old at the time and not all that willing to get as bonded with Gracie as he was with Samantha, who was only three years his junior. He remained her protector first, and often put her on a pedestal whenever he could.

When Samantha reached the age of ten, just after Gracie was born, Florence and Charles decided it was time to enrol their child in etiquette lessons, as she was a most rambunctious child. A governor came and tutored all three girls in reading, writing, music and etiquette. Despite having never had proper lessons before, Samantha was an avid reader and bonded over this aspect with Emma. Samantha was always a curious girl and loved to learn and she was surprisingly welcome to the new governor.

When Samantha was 14 and Edward 17, both became part of a more scandalous world. Edward had been part of this world before; a world of drinking far too mcuh at parties and trying a bit of the green fairy every now and then. They were a wild pair, but Edward was always there to keep Samantha out of too much trouble. Their friends were alike to them, but they all still managed a good social standing--for the most part. At one point, Edward was known as a lady's man, and still is, but he was known to steal girl's virtues and leave them with nothing. He did this to one servant girl that worked for the family, and hardly anyone could imagine the scandal that shook the household when the girl became pregnant. She was no older than 14 and Edward was just 18. When she cried that he was the father, Edward's parents immediately reacted by sending the girl to a far away relative so she could work. They were not about the let "some silly servant girl" get in the way of their good reputation and the only one who seemed upset at Edward was Samantha.

Samantha was not happy that her brother had not taken responsibility for what he did, because no matter how he denied it, Samantha knew that what the girl had said was true. This confrontation put a serious strain on their relationship and the two barely speak any more. Samantha feels as though part of her died when the two stopped being friends, but she is far too proud to admit to any weakness in her, even when concerning her beloved brother.

Now Samantha has reached the age of 17 and her debut and season will become soon. Throughout her life she was always a flirtatious girl, and is now very excited to look at possible suitors for her life. However, one shouldn’t depend on her wanting to settle down, as she was never a quite child and hasn’t grown into a quite woman.
