Background

Early Years:

On a chilly November day, 1784, John Aubrey Quinn, Marquess of Ramsden, was born to John, the late Marquess, and Theodora Quinn, Marchioness of Ramsden. The Quinn family’s joyfulness over the birth of an heir was tempered by the untimely and tragic deaths of Lord Ramsden, and soon after, his father, the Duke of Wycombe. Never fond of rusticating, Theodora closed up Quimby Hall, taking up residence in town at Wycombe House with the infant duke. She met and subsequently married Thomas Grafton, Marquess of Raulings, after a customary mourning period.

At three years old, John was no longer alone in the nursery, now having a step-brother, William, Earl of Bridgeton. Joined by twins, Henry and Richard, and later sisters, he has only known the closeness and love of a boisterous family. His stepfather has raised him as one of his own in addition to preparing him to take the realm of the dukedom.

Cambridge:

John attended Eton and later Cambridge University, taking a first in maths in 1806. War on the continent removed the possibility of a grand tour, so at the suggestion of the marquess, he furthered his classical education via various artists and language tutors. Thoroughly prepared to take his place among his peers, John took up his seat in the House of Lords and began moving throughout London’s tonnish engagements, furthering acquaintances and building alliances.

London Years

Feeling no urgency to produce an heir, John was not actively looking for a wife when he met Lady Penelope. By chance, an introduction was made, and her intelligence and refreshing frank manner entertained him, so much that he began to regularly seek her out. Unconvinced of his interest, John pressed his suit, and they fell deeply in love. On a sunny September day in 1807, nuptials were exchanged with Lady Penelope Beckett in St. George’s Church. A lavish wedding breakfast followed, along with Lady Genevieve in 1809, much to the thrill of both parents.
