The Dukedom of Welby was presented to the Rossington family in 1503, and its origins are slightly in mystery. It has been hinted that a Rossington daughter had been "involved" with King Henry VIII, and her family's silence had been bought with the final elevation to Dukedom, though the family will deny this vehemently. They claim that it had been a wish of Henry VII to give the family a dukedom, but he had died before this had been carried out, therefore leaving Henry VIII to do the honours. Daniel will be the 8th Duke of Welby.

The Welby Estate is where Neil first met Jane, and fell in love with her. Jane and Hugh spent a large amount of time at Welby until 1808, when they moved to the Marquessate of Easton. It was at the Easton Estate that Jane died, and where she is buried.

The Welby Estate is portrayed by Tyntesfield, located in Somerset. All photos on this page are of Tyntesfield.
