Mrs. Helen Osbourne was born to a descendant of Elwyn Treville, 6th Marquess of Crantock. She made her debut in Bath in 1786 and married the much older Harold Osbourne the following year.

Helen was fond of light conversation and parties and persuaded her wealthy and infatuated husband to take her up to London frequently after their marriage. There she became friends with Sophie, Marchioness of Eastborough. As a mother, Helen doted upon her little daughter, Diana, to an unhealthy extent, seeing her more as a living doll than a real girl. She doted upon James too as an infant and spoiled him terribly but did not know what to do with him as he grew older. She died of a chill caught at a house party when the twins were ten years old.
