Sir Roland Bentley (d. 1806), of Clifton Hall in Kent, was the father Catherine Clare, who in turn was the mother of Eleanor Clare. Mrs. Clare was an only child and her death ensured that Miss Clare was the sole grandchild of Sir Roland. Upon his death, his estate passed to his cousin, Sir David Pollington.
