Background
Christiana's upbringing was marked by the family's seasonal travel between their country estate, Cambridge House in London, and Spa in Belgium where the family was quick to retreat at the sign of illness (or, in a few cases, of national turmoil). At Spa the family became acquainted with noble families from France and other foreign nations. Her father was a staunch supporter of the Whig party, although his level of interest and participation in the House of Lords wavered with the seasons.
Christiana has had no significant love interests as of yet, which can be attributed in part to her family's frequent travel. She is a highly desirable match, however, in part because of her family's nobility and influence, both politically and socially. She hopes to find a man who will please her parents with a title and a fortune and who will love her as well; she hopes to be the perfect wife, mother, and hostess for her future husband. The high expectations she faced led her to be an attention-seeking child, always searching for approval from her parents. Christiana's mother instructed her carefully on the proper etiquette and skills of high society, and was usually pleased by Christiana's performance when her training was put to the test. She has always been close to her younger sister, though Harriet was generally overlooked by the duchess who focused her attention on Christiana.
