Abercromby Gosling was the 2nd Duke of Leighton.
Abercromby was the youngest of six children, all his siblings being females with pretentious names (possibly the result of their mother taking on all sorts of airs and graces as a new duchess): Electra, Ophelia, Phoebe, Theadora and Amaryllis. As such, he grew up in an environment dominated by women and was known to be exceedingly personable and charming.
He married very late in life (rumoured to have liked to say that he wanted to ensure he had tried everything on offer) to long time friend and confidante, Lady Isobel Linford. The couple had only one son, Augustus Gosling.
