Drusilla Mortemain is the eldest daughter of Sir Edward Mortemain and his wife Alice Mortemain nee Preston. She was born at Fairlow House in Yorkshire, and made her debut in local society at the age of eighteen. Unfortunate circumstances have made her disinclined to marry, and this being so she now makes her living as a companion to wealthy, genteel ladies.
