History

Lady Mirabel Mary Madeleine Montgomery was born the oldest child of the then Earl and Countess of Alderhan at their Sussex home, Amberley Hall, though she was christened at the church beside the family's ancestral seat in Surrey, as is Montgomery tradition. She was educated at home by a governess until her debut in 1800, whereupon she made quite the impression on London society. Lady Mirabel was named the Incomparable of her season and received several proposals of marriage, all of which she turned down, finding none of them to be a worthy match.

In the winter of 1800 one of her father's friends and business associates, Feardorcha O'Sullivan, came to stay at Eastborough Park. He was from a good gentry family (albeit an Irish one) and had confided in her father his plans to purchase a baronetcy, though this mattered little to her - she was struck immediately by his humour and intelligence, long before she found out the particulars of his circumstances. Like her father, Mirabel has a stubborn streak a mile wide and nobody who has ever met her could say that she was shy about going after what she wanted. Her parents were somewhat concerned about her obvious favour for a man so very clearly her social inferior, but they liked the man a great deal. Not only that, they trusted him. After several lengthy discussions with her parents they came around to the idea, but evidently it seemed that her favour was quite obvious to everyone excepting the recipient - Feardorcha appeared blissfully unaware of Lady Mirabel's regard for him, and remained so until she cornered him in the library during the Montgomery family's annual winter ball, where she made that regard eminently clear, with the assistance of a sprig of mistletoe and a rather fetching red dress.

Despite this, Feardorcha refused to court her until the season of 1801. Instead the pair exchanged letters up until their individual returns to London in the spring, him with a baronetcy and her with a great deal of impatience. During the season they came to know each other far better than they had during the month that Feardorcha had spent at Eastborough, which reassured him that her favour for him was not borne out of some desire to spite her parents or her status, and reassured her that her efforts had not been for nothing - it seemed that beneath his indifference, that he was as taken with her as she was with him. This was not to say that their relationship was or is a perfect one. The pair of them are hot-tempered, stubborn, and extraordinarily sharp-minded, which can lead to blazing rows and extended periods of silence wherein neither of them wish to be the first to give in after an argument. But they adore each other, and there is nothing that one would not do for the other.

Feardorcha proposed in the winter of 1801 and they were married in the spring of 1802, at the church of St. Lawrence, in Effingham, where Mirabel was christened.

Present Day

Mirabel currently resides in London on a permanent basis, in the second largest house on Berkeley Square (the largest being Alderhan House, her family's London home). This season she will be playing host to Nehemiah Tucker, a business associate of her husband's, and his grandmother. She is determined to show them the very best of English hospitality, despite the looks that she will be getting from her neighbours. She is confident in the status afforded to by her parents to provide her the social high ground in any and all disagreements with her peers.
