Welby Estate, located in Surrey, is the current seat of the Dukedom of Welby. It is the current residence of Miranda Rossington, Hugh Rossington and Madalene Rossington, and will pass into Daniel Rossington's possession upon his brother's death.
The Dukedom of Welby was presented to the Rossington family in 1503, and its origins are buried slightly in mystery. It has been hinted that a Rossington daughter had been "involved" with King Henry VIII, and her family's silence had been bought with the final elevation to Dukedom, though the family will deny this vehemently. They claim that it had been a wish of Henry VII to give the family a dukedom, but he had died before this had been carried out, therefore leaving Henry VIII to do the honours.
The Welby Estate is where Neil first met Jane, and fell in love with her. Jane spent a large amount of time at Welby until 1807, when they moved to the Marquessate of Easton, though they still traveled to Welby. When Jane became pregnant, she refused to travel to Easton again until the baby was born. It was at Welby that Madalene was born, and Jane died. She is buried on the property.
The Welby Estate is portrayed by Tyntesfield, located in Somerset. All photos on this page are of Tyntesfield.
