The origins of the Hackett family are lost in the mists of time but it is known that Squire John Hackett was a fervent Royalist from Dorset during the Civil War and on Charles II's ascension in 1660 the King rewarded Mr. Hackett with the Earldom of his native Morven. The current Lord Morven is the 12th Earl.
