Sarah Bartram, Lady Bartram, during her coming out, portrayed by Ingrid Bergman

Sarah, Lady Bartram, was born Sarah Henriette Freye in 1739. As the younger sister of Sir James Freye (1721-1788) and she was consequently aunt to his children - Mrs Dorothy Greystone (1756-present), Sir Simon Freye (1757-present) and Lady Rotherham (1758-present), as well as great-aunt to their offspring.

She came out in 1758 and married Peregrine Bartram (1741-present) the following year. By the time her husband succeeded to the Bartram barony in 1761, she had given birth to their eldest son, William (1761-1805). He was followed by John (1763-1789) and Honoria (1768-present).

She died in 1800, after a short illness, never learning of the existence of her grandson, John Silvanus Bartram (1785-present). Although she died after her second son's death, she predeceased her eldest son. She is survived by her husband, Eleanor - the widow of her eldest son William, and her daughter Honoria.

Her grandson, young John Bartram, is the product of the marriage of her second son John to Florentia Hartwell (1767-1798), a tailor's daughter. Lord Bartram disowned John senior when he ran off to marry Florentia, and young John has only recently revealed himself and been reconciled to the family.

Although Florentia (the wife of John senior) is deceased, her daughter-in-law from her eldest son's marriage, Eleanor Bartram née Sothersby (1770-present), is still alive and living somewhere on the continent.
