Romantic issues

If you asked him, Marcus would say that he has never been in love. If you got him very drunk and asked him repeatedly when he was in just the right mood he might say that he has been in love twice - or even thrice - depending on just how drunk he is.

One Miss Grace Torrington was quite possibly his first love. A little minx of pixie-like beauty armed with sharp witted flirtatious comments, young Grace set her cap at young Marcus whilst her family were visiting during the hunting season. However, with the prospect of his first London Season ahead, Marcus had no thoughts of settling down and a frustrated Miss Torrington swiftly secured the hand of Marcus's best friend, Jack O'Donoghue. Like a child who has rejected a toy, Marcus begun to suspect that he had made a mistake the second someone else claimed his ... toy.

Lady Viola Fitzgerald may also make his list. He, however, did not make hers.

Thirdly, the beautiful and rather mysterious Lady Claudia Morton may make the list. However, the lady in question - tired of the Marquess dragging his feet and ignoring all hints of matrimony - made a sensible marriage to a dull old baron.

Perhaps this Season Marcus may have learned from his mistakes and propose (a) to someone who may say yes and (b) before they say yet to someone else.
