An hereditary title in the Peerage of Great Britain held by the Stanley family. This is the second creation of the title. The current Earl is Gordon Stanley, 7th Earl of Hanworth.
The widow of the 5th Earl after his death remarried to the 3rd Duke of Pennington in scandalous circumstances and there is a longstanding grudge between the families that exists to this day.
