Count Aleksandr Filippovich Mamontov is the son of Count Filipp Sergeyevich Mamontov and his deceased wife Countess Natalia "Natasha" Matveevna Mamontova née Peronskaya. He is the youngest of seven children (all sons). He was born in Moscow in the Russian Empire on 8 January 1790 and the difficult birth caused his mother's death. He is rotmistr (captain) of the 1st Grodno Life Hussar Regiment, currently on leave and in London at his uncle's behest. He is almost universally known as Sasha in Russia.
