Hannah Cook is the cook at Bartram House. She is unmarried, though she did have a stillborn child from an unfortunate liaison with a charming scoundrel who died very ignominiously. She has been with the Bartrams for many years. Her feelings of gratitude towards the late Lady Bartram for hiring her when she was in desperate need of work never abated, and she is consequently somewhat maternal towards Honoria.
