Background

Henrietta was always a restless soul, never quite sure of who she was or what she wanted. The year she turned twenty-one, she eloped with a footman from a friend's estate. Her father was enraged, particularly as she had broken off an unofficial engagement with an Earl who was a friend of his, and disowned her. Despite being separated from her family, Henrietta lived a very happy six years with her husband Robert. They had one son, Ira, who she named for her father. She did not remain in contact with her parents, but sent occasional letters to her brother, who she missed dearly.

Henrietta and Robert died after a bout of pneumonia in 1786, leaving Ira in the care of Robert's mother. Henrietta's family did not learn of her death until April 1811.
