Penelope Colborne is the Duchess of Rothbury, wife of Gregory Colborne, the 11th Duke of Rothbury. Their marriage was agreed perhaps too much in haste when Penelope was a young debutante, she dazzled by the Duke's title and position, he by her beauty, as it has since proved an unhappy one that is managed only by the spouses residing separately for the majority of the year. Nevertheless, the couple have produced three children: Sebastian, Earl of Falstone, Raphael and Meg, although they are both distant and somewhat negligent parents.
Penelope is currently residing in London with all three of her children and has begun work to prepare Meg for her debut in 1812 - though the Duchess' primary concern is how the arrangements reflect on herself rather than Meg's future happiness.
