Background
Having been blessed with a firstborn son, the Duke and Duchess of Eversley weren’t particular as to who the next child should be. Of course, there was a certain mention of how perfect it would be if there was a daughter to complete the family. It seemed that God had been in a happy mood indeed because in the year 1793, Prudence Hyacinth Ashbourne was born.
The parents treated Prue, as she was called by her parents and family since birth, with loving care and a bit of cosseting. Being the youngest in the household did give her certain advantages. She was her brother’s shadow and was indulged by the elder brother. Of course, as the time passed, she was privately educated. Her rather bookish nature and intelligence worried her parents but they didn't feel the need to rebuke their daughter's thirst for knowledge, to a certain limit.
Her father’s death in her fourteenth year put shadows in her life and in her. Although his grace hadn't spent much time with Prue, she loved him and losing her father at such an age, she felt a little bewildered. Her family though managed to bring her spirits back. She started spending much time with her books, perhaps, in an attempt to forget the pain. In the next two years, she managed to forget completely that she was to have a debut in near future.
The matter of debut was brought forward by her brother. He thought that Prue was now of age where it would prudent to make her debut. She hadn't really wanted to go to London but her mother had calmly made Prue come to Cecily's understanding. Though Prue still doesn't really want to be paraded in front of society, she has gotten used to the idea of it. Upon her mother's request she has agreed to go along with whatever her mother deems necessary for her debut. As a result, she would most likely be seen in a modiste trying out fabrics or in a bookstore trying to buy a book. She is ready to take on London and its Season.
