Thomas Roach is in the employ of Kenward Asquith, the new Marquess of Coniston. He has worked his way up to valet from boot-boy in the family's service, and has accompanied his master to town. He has been in the Marquess' own household since, as Lord Milbury, he moved out to set up his own home at Milbury Hall, starting there as a footman, and has been the Marquess' valet for nearly ten years. He currently has no plans to marry and leave the Marquess' service.
A naturally serious man, which helps him in his profession, Roach is close enough to his master to know that the Marquess' own seriousness is mostly learned and is not his natural mood. He has been able to advise on small things, persuading the Marquess that to spend a little more money on a wardrobe that is well-tailored will not hurt, and he has hopes that whatever lady the Marquess takes as his wife will bring a large enough dowry that he can stop worrying about finances, and learn to enjoy the finer things of life. With, of course, Roach as his valet and, if need be, his confidant.
