Background
Childhood
Born the 4th son and 7th child of the wealthy Earl of Lydford, Tristan was the handsome baby of the family. His mother and sisters doted upon him to a degree that annoyed his father, although the deaths of Florentia and Augustus to consumption forestalled any attempt to intervene. He received the usual aristocratic education and training, although as the 3rd spare he was left largely to his mother's care and his own devices. Spoiled, and without any expectation of having to worry about becoming the heir, Tristan hit his teens in the full traditional, hedonistic form of a moneyed nobleman's son. By the age of 15, he gave all indications of growing into a rake and gaming hell regular, as any indiscretion was defended as being inconsequential and nothing but the minor follies of youth by his adoring mother.
Somewhat fortunately for him, fate intervened in the form of Miriam Bansfield to divert him from this road before he managed to irreparably tarnish his reputation. Born the middle daughter of Richard Barnes, Baron Burcott, her fortunes were abruptly diminished when smallpox wiped out her entire family line and the Burcott Barony was held in abeyance due to a lack of male heirs. Forced to marry Seth Bansfield, a local landed gentleman, she set her aspirations to regaining her proper place in society via the marriage of her daughter Sophia. She set a trap for Tristan, arranging to walk in on he and Sophia in a compromising situation.
Her trap failed. She did create a scandal, but the Earl of Lydford did not approve of such underhanded tactics, and rather than forcing a marriage, he took advantage of the opportunity to "reclaim" his son from his wife's clutches and sent him off on the Grand Tour with a man entrusted with shaping up Tristan into a proper gentleman.
Shortly after Tristan's departure, an admirer of Sophia's killed Albion in a duel of questionable provenance.
Current Season
Tristan was called home when his sole surviving brother Giles was killed in the Peninsula before he could buy out his commission. He is currently under an odd state of fire, as his father is determined to stamp out the final effects of his mother's coddling and turn him into the proper heir of Lydford.
After several months in Somerset learning the ropes of what being the heir means he is in London for the first time since his return to England.
