Lady Crantock was born Lady Isolda Treville, the eldest daughter of Elwyn Treville, 6th Marquess of Crantock. A renowned beauty, she married Marcus Layton for love and was instrumental in persuading her husband to change his name to Treville-Layton in order to inherit her father's title. She was the mother of Archibald Treville-Layton, the current Marquess.
Isolda had four younger sisters, all beautiful and willful: Rowena, Morwenna, Demelza and Senara.
