Emma Longstaffe (1766-1809) was born Miss Emma Fairlie to a landowner in Cheshire. She married Adam Longstaffe in 1783 and they had four surviving children: Hermione, Frederick, Agatha, and Pamela. Emma died in 1809 of a lingering illness through which she was nursed by her eldest daughter, Hermione.
Emma's only sister, Harriet, died in 1810 and left £1000 to each of her nieces and nephews.
