Johann von Alfeld is the father of Charlotte Vickery, the wife of the Viscount Saltash, and is the maternal grandfather of Robert, John and Emma Vickery. His estates are in Hannover and since the annexation of that province by Napoleon, and the war between Britain and France, he has not seen his grandchildren since they were very young.
