Sir James Freye (1721-1788) married Lady Dorothea Grafton in 1752. They had three children: Dorothy, Simon and Madeleine. In later years, Sir James' mind wandered and he became very forgetful. Nowadays he would have been diagnosed with Alzheimers.

He is the maternal grandfather of Richard, Robbie, Viola and Olivia Fitzgerald and the paternal grandfather of Julian and Henrietta Freye.
