3rd son of Augustus Ellis, Earl of Lydford.
Giles purchased his commission in 1803. Almost immediately after his younger brother Tristan Ellis left London in 1805 he went from second spare to heir, and in 1806 the darling boy at age 19 proposed to Viola Fitzgerald.
He was killed in battle at Bussaco in 1810.
