Sophia Gosling was born Miss Sophia Layton, youngest sister of Henry Layton, Lord Loseley and was the second wife of Andrew Gosling, 4th Duke of Leighton.
By all accounts she was too beautiful for her own good, threw the most exclusive, lavish weekend parties and was spectacularly unconcerned for the upbringing of her two sons, Nicholas and William.
