Georgiana Haworth is the daughter of a Tory MP and an aristocratic French emigree. She debuted and was presented at court in 1810 and married Lord Louth the same year. Now happily married to a man who shares her interests, and expecting her first child, she is establishing herself as a London society hostess.

Her closest friends are Felicity Staunton and Rosalind Fairmont, who she would like to see married to English gentlemen if only to ensure that they spend winters less far away in Ireland.

Georgiana is played by Vix.

Background

Georgiana is the daughter of a Member of Parliament (Tory) and a French emigrée. Her mother, of noble birth, escaped France early in the Revolution, though her husband was not so fortunate. In England, she re-married, with Georgiana her first child.

Georgiana and her younger siblings have all been raised according to English customs, the girls receiving the usual genteel education for ladies through a governess, and the boys attending public school. As a result, they have also been raised under the Church of England, though their mother would have preferred a Catholic upbringing. Georgiana's childhood was a happy one, no doubt helped by the fact that her parents marriage was of affection, not convenience. Their home life was more than comfortable. Her skill at drawing and painting is merely passable, though her needlework is much better. She plays the piano averagely. Her mother had hoped she would take to the harp, but she preferred singing, and has developed an excellent voice and technique. She speaks fluent French (what else, with a French mother) and somewhat less fluent Italian. German she barely has a tiny smattering of, and considers this to be a very unpoetic language anyway. She is a competent rider, and enjoys it, but is no daredevil on horseback. A pleasant trot through picturesque surroundings or around town suits her perfectly.

Her presentation and London debut was put off until last year due to a combination of circumstances that made it impractical at the time. However, debuting at the slightly unfashionable age of 19 does not appear to have hindered her success, as she was snapped up before the end of a full season by Lord Louth. Since their marriage last autumn, she has been adjusting to married life in the country, and is now returning to town with her husband for her second season, and first as a married lady.

Personality

Generally a cheerful and vivacious girl, with a typically youthful outlook and who finds amusement in many things, Georgiana nonetheless has a sharp mind - and sometimes tongue. She has strong opinions she is not afraid to voice - though usually only among friends. She has grown up in a highly political household; while her father's guests kept much of the serious political discussion to after-dinner conversations where ladies were not present, it is difficult for opinions on current affairs to be stifled, especially when they are inspired by strong ideals. Her marriage to a man with political ambitions and interests, and no aversion to discussing these with his wife, has only heightened this, though she usually manages to restrain herself in company, in the interests of propriety.

Georgiana is very eager to please and to impress, not only on a personal level but on a social level as well. As the oldest of four surviving children, she is quite adept at taking charge when necessary, sometimes to the extent of bossiness. She tends to have a mothering/older sisterly instinct towards those who seem to need it, again as the result of having three younger siblings.
