Mrs. Lettice 'Letty' Haywood is the only daughter and third child of Richard, Baron Ashurst, and his wife Elizabeth. She is married to Rufus Haywood, heir presumptive to the Earldom of Darlington, as his uncle does not seem likely to produce any children.
Letty was educated at Miss Eamont's School for Girls. She is part of a group that calls themselves the Bluebirds. Other group members include (but are not limited to) Frances Howard, Liselle Peltenham, Marietta Lovejoy, Eugenia Burnett and Virginia Lang. She is the brightest, cheeriest country Miss that one could ever hope to meet - until you turn your back. Sneaky, sly and vicious, she has reduced many a girl to tears and ruined several reputations. Despite her charming countenance, Letty is not a woman to be trusted.
