About
A spoiled, flighty thing, Anastasia debuted in 1793 aged sixteen in Bath and promptly married the Earl of Bathampton, liking his title rather more than any other part of him. Clementine was born the next year, much to the delight of both her parents. However, the novelty of the child soon wore off for her husband as it seemed that Anastasia would be unable to fall pregnant a second time after a succession of miscarriages. She comforted herself for the next few years with the company of her daughter, treating her like a pretty little doll, but she soon realised that Bathampton was no place for a child to live, with the Earl's explosive and unpredictable temper. Ana was never much of a mother, but sending Clementine away to school aged ten was the best thing that she ever did for her. Clementine, perhaps, does not see it this way - but Clementine does not remember that the reason she was sent away was because her father struck her across the face.
When Clementine returned home, her husband began parading a line of completely unsuitable gentlemen through their drawing room. Ana put her foot down quite firmly: she would ensure that her daughter did not end up with the sort of marriage that she had, and she promised Clementine a debut in London for her birthday. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how one looks at it) much to everyone's surprise, Ana fell pregnant once more and was quite unable to join her daughter in the city. As such, she has engaged the assistance of her close friend Lady Dryden in bringing her daughter out this season.
