Mr. Barnaby Palmer is the father of played character Jemima Palmer and NPC Cecily Palmer. He is married to NPC Francesca Palmer. He is an extremely wealthy landowner, but his fortune is, to his eldest daughter's great disappointment, a fairly recent development, going back only two generations or so. Said eldest daughter would be shocked to learn that she is, in fact, her father's favorite - between the troublemaker with some brain and the docile girl without much of one, he'll choose the former every time.
He inherited much of his fortune from his father, Benedict Palmer (1718-1775), but it has only grown since he took the reins of the family estates. He takes a very personal interest in all his finances and properties, and is more than a little dismayed that his fortune will eventually pass into the hands of his daughters' husbands, so he intends to keep a close eye on any gentleman who shows an interest in either girl.
