Background
David Boyd was born in Yorkshire, England as the third child of Marquess John Boyd and his wife, Lady Marie Boyd, who had previously had both a daughter and a son. His upbringing was bit harsh, as the upbringings in the nobler families can be, but David did, as he would have said it himself, survive. However, it was quite obvious to him that he was not as bound by tradition as his siblings were. He felt different and was indeed more flighty. Therefore, it was of no surprise to his parents when he finally stated that he wished to move to London.
David had told his parents that he would be taught this and that about life and the expectations people had of his, by a friend of the family, (the now deceased) Lord Gregory Withe. It was indeed true that he would be tutored by the man, but the tutoring in itself would bear no resemblance to what the parents thought he would be taught. They expected their son to learn about ethics and tact, but really, what Lord Withe wanted to teach David, was the art of painting. The old man had earlier on noticed that David did in fact have a gift and he thought it silly to throw it away without giving it a chance. So he and the young man half-cheated John and Marie Boyd into letting David go.
In London, he soon found his place. It was exciting and inspiring – everything he had always wanted and thought it to be. And most important of all, he got to be the person he had always had to suppress in order to please the parents. He spent most of his time being taught the way of the arts and spent the remains of his time around London, painting whatever inspired him. And even though some thought him crazy, being a Lord wanting to be an artist, sooner or later most people had to admit that he was in fact a very skilled painter. His paintings sold well and as he began experimenting with portraits, he soon came to earn quite a lot of money due to the many uptown citizens who wished to immortalize their presence by being painted. This meant that David Boyd soon became a man welcomed in many homes and a friend of many people.
As for the family in Yorkshire, it was of course leaked that a certain David Boyd was in fact spending his time in London, painting. Marquess John Boyd was not at all pleased with this, but as he arrived in London and heard the praising words people had about his son, he doubted for a second as to whether or not David had actually found his calling. Quickly, however, he supposed that the son could not possibly have found himself in the lifestyle of an artist and therefore became quite angry, but seeing as David did not wish to change anything in his life, John Boyd could not do anything about it. He never got around to telling the son whether or not he accepted the son's lifestyle, before he passed away, which at some times bothers David, though most of the time, he lets the thought go, thinking that when he has become such a success, some part of the old man had to be proud. And even though David's brother, Christopher does not seem to keen on David's influence on his children, mostly Chloë, he is, to some extend, proud of his younger brother and the things he has achieved.
