Treville Family

The Treville family is an ancient Cornish aristocratic family, responsible for large amounts of land in the north of Cornwall. A Lord Treville of Crantock was listed in the Doomsday Book but they remained in relative obscurity until the reign of Henry VII when Jeffrey Treville was created the first Marquess of Crantock. Their lands were increased and their principal seat became Crantock Abbey.

In 1724 with the death of Elwyn Treville, the 6th Marquess, the title fell out of the direct male line and was reawarded to Elwyn's son-in-law, Marcus Treville-Layton. Since then, the name has died out on its own, surviving only as a condition for all new inheritors of the Crantock title and as a middle name for those descended through the female line.

Trevilles are known for producing proud, fair, strong-willed characters and have a tendency towards girls. Many of them in the direct line still retain a sense of injustice that the Treville name has now died out as a surname on its own.

There are many opportunities to have a Treville descendant in your family! If you are interested, please contact Rose.
