Lady Devenish was born in Rotherham in 1767 as Miss Fanny Wilson, youngest daughter of Gregory Wilson, attorney. She married Sir John Devenish of Applebrook in 1786 and they had two children: William and Charlie.
Lady Devenish has a serene and unquestioning temperament which allowed to her deal with her husband's dissolute behaviour. She is a close friend of the current Countess of Rotherham and is godmother to Lady Olivia Fitzgerald.
