Born to the 3rd Marquess of Beningborough, Nicholas Landon, and his wife, Augusta Landon, Edmond was the first of two living children that would come from his parents union. In 1766, his younger sister, Celia Landon, was born. Following Celia's birth, there would be three more siblings, none of whom would survive their first birthday. While his parents maintained a cordial relationship with each other, there was never any love between them. Nicholas Landon suffered a heart attack in 1787, and died, leaving the title of Marquess to his only son.
