Richard Fitzgerald is the eighth and current Earl of Rotherham. He married Miss Madeleine Freye, grand-daughter of the Earl of Bridgeton in 1776. He divides his time between his estate at Rotherham in Yorkshire and London, where he is a Tory member of the House of Lords.
Lord Rotherham rules his estates and his family with justice, tolerance and good sense. He is a fair landowner, family man and friend. Most recently he has been instrumental in helping his Yorkshire neighbours, the Devenishes after they were left greatly indebted when Sir John Devenish died.
